South of Sardinia's world-famous holiday resorts lies the Atha Ruja winery, about 6 km inland from Dorgali. It was founded by the couple Pietro Pittalis and Annita Salis in the 1990s. The meticulousness and passion Pietro puts into the winery can only be truly appreciated when you experience him on site. In the vineyards, mainly the Cannonau variety was cultivated, as well as small amounts of Carignano and Muristellu. Experimentally, small quantities of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Syrah were also planted. However, the calling card is the Cannonau grape, the most important grape variety of Sardinia. Marco Bernabei, son of the famous Franco Bernabei, acts as the oenological consultant, who is also partly responsible for the extremely pure and fresh wine style.
