It all began in 1971 when Arnaldo Caprai fulfilled an old dream by purchasing the Val di Maggio estate in the most beautiful area of Montefalco. The arrival of his young son Marco Caprai at the company in 1988 marked a turning point. In a very short time, Marco Caprai led the winery to the top position in Umbria, and today he is recognized as one of Italy’s finest producers.
In 2001, Marco Caprai received the award for “Italy’s best wine producer,” and in 2005, the Sagrantino di Montefalco Riserva 25 anni 2001 was named “Italy’s best wine of 2005.” As another highlight, Caprai received the title “Winery of the Year 2006” from Gambero Rosso and “European Winery of the Year 2012” from Wine Enthusiast.
