The fascinating and extensive history of La Cave de Genève began at the end of the First World War. In 1929, several winegrowers from the Arve et Lac region founded a cooperative. It was called La Cave de la Souche and brought together around 50 members. This group also gave rise to the first Swiss Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC). From 1933 onward, the cooperative was called La Cave de Mandement. In 1948, Vin Union began operations. Its activities included all oenological tasks, product development, and sales. In 1970, the company processed almost 80 percent of Geneva's total production. Its main business was turning grapes into wine and selling it. The cooperative receives the grapes immediately after the harvest for pressing. Since 2007, Cave de Genève SA has been located in Satigny, Switzerland's largest wine-growing municipality. While searching for a Geneva winery, we were absolutely impressed by the la Clémence Barrique line. The name la Clémence is derived from the 6,238-kilogram bell in St. Pierre Cathedral, which has protected the people of Geneva from demons and other evil spirits since 1407.
