Every year at a gala dinner, the different barrels are tasted blind. The best barrel is bottled as a single-varietal wine. Il Prescelto! Ruby red; the nose shows intense cherry, plum and tobacco notes. On the palate, the Merlot, limited to 300 bottles, is dry, balsamic , with ripe tannins.

Castello degli Angeli

Das zum imposanten Castello degli Angeli gehörende Weingut, war für uns die ganz grosse Überraschung an der Vinitaly 2017. 60 km nordöstlich von Mailand gelegen, ist die Engelsburg bei der Anfahrt bereits aus der Ferne zu erkennen. Den Grundstein für den Weinbau legten 1996 Mauro Taiarioli und der Önologe Rainer Zierock. Heute sind die (nur) 1.8 ha Rebfläche das Reich von Fabio Bigolin, dem heutigem Önologen. Gerade mal 7000 Flaschen Wein beträgt die gesamte Jahresproduktion! Die Einzellagen mit einem Gefälle von bis zu 45%, befinden sich alle um das Castello herum. Eine echte Trouvaille aus Bergamo.
