The winery was purchased in 1948 by grandfather Giuseppe Altare. In the beginning, alongside the vines, peaches, apples, and hazelnuts were also processed. In 1976, the current owner Elio joined the winery and decided to plant the entire estate with vines. Elio’s first years in the business were marked by the severe crisis in Italy. It was not an easy time for winemakers in Piedmont. So, in the same year, Elio decided with some friends to discover the miracle of Burgundy vinification for himself. The trip to France motivated him so much that he set aside traditional vinification and embraced new methods. The ongoing success of his wines has proven him right. Production amounts to about 70,000 bottles. Elio Altare has received the Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso several times and even earned 97 points from Robert Parker for his Barolo Brunate 2004.
